Entry-Level Barrel Maker

Interested in learning a new skill? Ready for a new opportunity to do something unique and different? Adirondack Barrel Cooperage makes premium American white oak spirit and wine barrels. We are a growing company looking for candidates interested in learning the time-honored art of barrel coopering. Full-time positions available with opportunity to grow with the company at our new location in Amsterdam, NY.

Rate of Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour to start

Benefits: Paid time off, Boot/Shoe Allowance, and No-cost Primary Healthcare Provider

Schedule: 8 hour shift, day shift, overtime

Duties may include:

  • Set up, operate, and tend drill presses, lathes, sanders, planers, and bandsaws

  • Use automated machinery, such as computerized numerical control (CNC) machines

  • Operate specialized pieces of woodworking machinery

  • Use of hand tools

  • Perform work in a production/manufacturing facility following safety rules

  • Stave processing, preparation, and grading

  • Barrel head preparation

  • Verify dimensions using caliper or rule

  • Sand barrels using sander machine, hand sanders, and sandpaper

  • Barrel testing

  • Use of barrel wrapping machine and palletize barrels for shipment

  • Clean production/work areas

  • Forklift operation

  • Furniture or Cabinetry Assembly

  • Manufacturing

  • Woodworking

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age

  • Must have reliable transportation

  • Must be able to lift 100 lbs

  • Driver’s License

  • High school or equivalent (preferred)

  • Forklift certified (preferred)

  • Availability to work full-time Monday through Friday


Work Conditions:

  • Indoor wood shop, generally well ventilated with extractors to minimize dust, but conditions may be dusty with noise from machine operations

  • Protective safety glasses, ear protection, and a dust mask with filters required to operate some machinery

  • Work can be physical, involving standing, bending, and stretching

  • Equipment contains sharp blades and dangerous machines
